"It is unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much you lose a little money - that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot; it cannot be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better"
John Ruskin (1819 - 1900)
Most people are very happy with our web design prices but we still get some who baulk when I quote them say £1200 for a search engine optimised website with an online catalogue. In many cases these websites are required to start a business selling goods online.
For some of these people this is their first venture into business and selling yet they expect their web designer to do all the work of creating their online business presence for them for a couple of hundred pounds. This is totally unrealistic. Clearly the cost of web design is related to the amount of work involved. You must understand the value of what your web designer does for you. Your website could sell your goods, tell people about your services, find clients and customers and basically provide a massive return on what is a very small investment.
Consider for a moment what you are getting for your money. Think about what it costs for your annual yellow pages entry, £400? £600? £800?
Let's assume that you have a website selling Aromatherapy Products. Nowadays someone seeking aromatherapy products may just type this very phrase into their chosen search engine. The websites that appear in the results will of course be be mainly those that deal in Aromatherapy products.
If your site is there and someone clicks on it there is great chance that they will buy something. Why? Well this is very highly targeted traffic. Online shoppers tell the search engine what they want and it delivers the options. If your site is amongst them and you offer suitable products and value for money then you have cracked it!
The Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) process that pushes your site to the top of the rankings is very complex and time consuming but we can include this in the cost of our web sites. Are we competent at this? Well, let's just say that the fact that you found this site amongst those of the many thousands of other web designers tells it's own story.
