Quite often people contact us for help in completing their own websites. They get so far then they get stuck with something and need someone to show them how to complete the website or the feature they are trying to install. It may be adding an online form, adding Paypal buttons or adding a database. It may also be that you have used a company that has been outsourcing their work and this has not come up to scratch or is giving you problems.

Unfortunately these are situations that can and do arise but assistance at this level is not amongst the web design services that we offer.

There are good reasons for this. Getting involved in a website that someone else has created can be a minefield. It is very difficult to estimate how long it will take to fix the problems or make the changes and hence difficult to price the job. We would not normally take this type of work on unless the client was also seeking a website redesign.

We have found that web design seems to attract these sort of enquiries more than most other services. I mean what kind of response would you get if you fitted 90% of your own kitchen then went to a kitchen fitter to help you to complete it?

Non Standard Web Design

People building DIY websites tend not to use standard methods. they take shortcuts and use methods that cause problems that are not always apparent and that they may not be aware of.

So we are sorry, but if you are in this situation we cannot help you unless you want us to start redesigning your website from scratch. This may not be a bad idea because making your own website seldom works. Having said that, we may be able to use some of the design components so feel free to make the enquiry.

Similarly, we do not offer unlimited free advice to people on search engine optimisation (SEO) or getting found in the search engines on websites we have not created. To do this properly a degree of involvement is required.

Free advice and consultancy on SEO is always included for clients who are using our website design services.

While on the subject of SEO we have to say that we can seldom just take on an established website and apply SEO techniques to it. Websites really have to be designed from the bottom up with SEO in mind to be effective. So it is likely that we would have to redesign your website to get the best from it.
